Viewing Other Users’ Profiles

Click any username in SeeleSeek — in search results, the buddy list, transfer queue, or chat — to open their profile sheet. SeeleSeek requests fresh data from the server each time a profile is opened.

Profile data is assembled from several separate server requests (status, stats, interests, privileges). Some fields may populate a moment after the sheet opens as responses arrive.

Interest System

Interests power the Soulseek recommendation engine. They are divided into two categories:

Liked Items

Things you enjoy — genres, artists, labels, software, games, or anything else. Adding likes tells the server what you are into so it can suggest similar users and content.

Hated Items

Things you dislike. Hated items are used to refine recommendations and filter out content you do not want suggested.

Managing Your Interests

In the Social panel, open the My Interests section.
1

Add a liked item

Type the name of something you like into the interest field and press Add Like. SeeleSeek saves the entry locally and registers it with the server immediately.
2

Add a hated item

Type into the same field and press Add Hate instead. The entry is registered with the server as a “thing I hate.”
3

Remove an interest

Click the remove button next to any like or hate. SeeleSeek deletes it from the server and from your local database.
The Soulseek server does not persist interests across sessions. SeeleSeek stores your interests locally and automatically re-registers all of them with the server after every login. Adding or removing an interest also triggers an automatic refresh of your recommendations and similar users.

Recommendations & Discovery

Open the Discovery tab in the Social panel to explore content and users based on your interests.

Recommendations

Items suggested specifically for you based on the overlap between your interests and those of other users. Each item has a positive score reflecting how strongly it is correlated with your likes.

Similar Users

Other Soulseek users whose interest profiles closely match yours, ranked by a similarity rating. Click a username to view their profile or browse their files.

Global Popular Interests

Network-wide trending interests, regardless of your personal profile. Useful for discovering what the broader Soulseek community is currently into.
Recommendations and similar users are refreshed automatically whenever you add or remove an interest. You can also trigger a manual refresh with the Refresh button in the Discovery tab.

Your Profile

Other users see your profile when they click your username. Set it up in the My Profile section of the Social panel.
1

Write a description

Enter a bio or any text you want others to see. If you leave this blank, SeeleSeek sends the default description “SeeleSeek - Soulseek client for macOS” when other users request your profile.
2

Upload a profile picture

Click Choose Picture to select an image from your Mac. The image is stored locally and sent to other users when they view your profile. Click Remove Picture to clear it.
3

Save

Click Save Profile to persist your description and picture to the local database. Your profile is served to other users dynamically, so changes take effect immediately without reconnecting.

Privileges

Soulseek privileges give privileged users access to faster download slots on other users’ clients. Many clients prioritize transfer queue positions for privileged users.

Checking Your Privileges

In the My Profile or Privileges section of the Social panel, click Check Privileges. SeeleSeek queries the server and displays your remaining time in a human-readable format, for example:
  • 14 days, 3 hours
  • 2 hours, 45 min
  • No privileges

Gifting Privileges to Others

1

Open a user's profile

Click their username anywhere in SeeleSeek to open the profile sheet.
2

Gift privileges

Click Give Privileges, enter the number of days you want to gift, and confirm. The days are deducted from your own privilege balance and added to theirs.
Gifting privileges is irreversible. The days transferred cannot be reclaimed.
Privileges are purchased on the Soulseek website. Supporting the network this way helps keep the servers running and grants you (and anyone you gift) priority download slots.
