Chat

Join public and private rooms, send direct messages, and manage room membership — all from within SeeleSeek.

Open the Chat panel with ⌘6 or click Chat in the sidebar.

Room Chat

Browsing and Joining Rooms

The left side of the Chat panel lists available rooms, sorted by user count. Use the search bar to filter by name.

1. Browse rooms

   Switch to the Chat panel. Public rooms are listed immediately. SeeleSeek fetches the full room list from the server on connection.

2. Join a room

   Click a room name and select Join, or double-click the room row. The room opens and you see the message history and current user list.

3. Send a message

   Type in the message field at the bottom and press Return.

4. Leave a room

   Right-click the room in the sidebar and choose Leave Room.

Messages are limited to 2,000 characters. The send button is disabled if the input is empty or exceeds this limit.

Room Tickers

Each room supports a ticker — a short per-user status message displayed alongside the room. To set your ticker for a room, open the room management panel and enter your ticker text. Room owners can also view and manage other members’ tickers.

Tickers can be collapsed if you prefer a cleaner view.

Private Rooms

Private rooms are invite-only. They work like public rooms but membership is controlled by the owner.

Creating a private room

1. Open the create dialog

   Click the + button in the room browser and enable the Private toggle.

2. Name the room

   Room names must be ASCII, contain no spaces, and be 24 characters or fewer.

3. Create

   Click Create. You become the owner automatically.

Inviting members

Open the room management panel for your private room, then use Add Member and enter the username to invite. The invited user receives a notification and can join the room.

Managing operators

Operators can moderate the room on the owner’s behalf. Use Add Operator / Remove Operator in the room management panel to grant or revoke the role.

Room Owner Controls

As the owner of a private room you have additional controls:

Kick user

Remove a member from the room immediately.

Set ticker

Update the room’s ticker message visible to all members.

Give up ownership

Transfer ownership of the room to another member. This action is permanent.

Add / Remove operators

Grant or revoke moderator privileges for any room member.

Direct Messages

Private (one-to-one) chats are separate from room chat.

1. Start a conversation

   Right-click a username anywhere in SeeleSeek and choose Message, or click a username in the private chats list. A conversation thread opens in the Chat panel.

2. Send a message

   Type in the message field and press Return. Messages are sent directly to the user, not to any room.

Persistent Message History

Direct message conversations are saved to a local database. Your chat history is restored the next time you open SeeleSeek, so you can scroll back through previous conversations even after restarting the app.

Deleting a conversation via Delete History permanently removes it from the local database. This cannot be undone.

Room List Tabs

The room browser has three tabs to help you find the rooms you care about:

Chat Settings

A few chat-related options are available in Settings → Chat:
